Non-fault accidents · Two ways forward

Someone else hit your car?

Start with Dents UK. We’ll assess the damage and help you explore a private quotation or a non-fault claim handled with one of our claims partners.

Choose the route that fits

Private settlement or a non-fault claim?

The right starting point depends on the damage, the other driver’s cooperation and whether responsibility is clear.

Private quotation

Agree the repair directly.

A practical option when the other driver wants to pay privately and everyone agrees on the repair.

  • A written Dents UK repair quotation.
  • Agree who pays and how payment will be made before booking.
  • Repair costs settled privately, without an insurance repair claim.

Hidden damage can change an estimate. Understand the scope before accepting a final settlement; a repair quote does not settle other losses.

Whichever route you take, notify your insurer as your policy requires, even if you do not ask it to pay. Dealing directly with the other driver’s insurer or using your own policy may also be options.

An accepted non-fault claim

Less to organise.
Support to keep moving.

Benefits depend on eligibility and the agreed claim route.

No claim on your Insurance

Costs are pursued from the at-fault insurer. Disclose the incident as required; future premiums and no-claims terms remain your insurer’s decision.

Nothing to pay

Our claims partners work on a no-win, no-fee basis. On an accepted non-fault claim, you do not pay your own policy’s repair excess.

A suitable replacement car

A like-for-like or similar vehicle may be arranged, subject to need and availability. Credit hire has no upfront hire payment; costs are pursued from the at-fault insurer.

Useful to know

Common questions

Will this protect my premiums and no-claims discount?

Avoiding an own-policy repair claim does not guarantee an unchanged premium. Disclose accidents as required, including at renewal. Your insurer determines the effect on your discount and price. MoneyHelper explains no-claims protection and premiums.

Is the replacement car completely free?

The aim is for the at-fault insurer to meet reasonable hire costs, but recovery is not guaranteed. Ask which agreement applies and what happens if recovery fails. Read the Financial Ombudsman’s credit-hire explanation.

Can other accident-related costs be recovered?

Ask the partner about reasonable, evidenced losses such as recovery, storage, necessary travel or lost earnings. Keep receipts and discuss costs before incurring them. Eligibility and recovery depend on the circumstances; avoid unnecessary costs.

What if the other driver disputes responsibility?

Keep all evidence. The partner may need more information or may be unable to accept the claim. We can discuss a private quotation or an own-policy insurance repair.

Who will I be dealing with?

Dents UK assesses and repairs your vehicle. For a managed claim, we introduce a partner and explain its role before you proceed. Its agreement governs its claim and vehicle services; ask it about complaints and protection for unrecovered costs.
